Patrick Schmidt

Special Counsel

Patrick specialises in criminal law and has a strong passion for defending the rights of his clients. He provides advice and represents clients charged with a wide variety of criminal matters from serious drug matters, weapons, assaults, sexual offences, murder/manslaughter, theft, drink driving, bail and appeal applications along with all traffic offences.

Patrick joined the firm in January 2019 from the NSW Police Force where for 7 years he was a senior prosecutor and relieving area prosecutor commander in the Sydney and the Specialist Courts command.

Prior to this role as a police prosecutor, he was a general duties police officer and plain clothes officer within the detective's office at Marrickville Local Area Command and before joining the NSW Police Force, he was an associate at a boutique Sydney law firm.

Patrick has always prided himself on being contactable and approachable. He ensures that complex legal problems are explained in easy to understand terms. Patrick is relaxed, down to earth yet has incredibly persuasive advocacy skills and with his knowledge of knowing both sides of a criminal trial, he can provide the best representation no matter what the situation is.

He understands that the consequences of being charged with a criminal offence can not only affect your life, your financial situation, your current and future employment, ability to travel and to obtain certain insurance, but can also have a significant impact on your family.

Patrick also appreciates that problems with the Police do not always occur during business hours. With that in mind, Patrick can be contacted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on his mobile (0410 593 059).

"Having represented the State in all types of criminal cases and my experience as a police officer, I am able to apply my knowledge and strategies as a defence lawyer to assist my clients best".

In his spare time, Patrick is an amateur surfer, golfer and skier. He grew up on a vineyard so loves a drop of good red wine. He also enjoys keeping fit and from his days of playing rugby union, he is a fanatical Wallabies supporter.

He has a law degree from Wollongong University and is a member of the Law Society of New South Wales.
